June marks LGBTQ Pride Month. As such, LGBTQ related TV shows, movies, and other media get highlighted, and that includes this blog. For Pride Month, below is a roundup of posts that focus on LGBTQ related content in cartoons.
Cartoon reviews
Here’s reviews I’ve written for animated cartoons that feature LGBTQ characters, either as the main stars or as secondary characters:
- “The Owl House”
- “Dead End: Paranormal Park”
- “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur”
- “Velma”
- “Doc McStuffins”
- “Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City”
- “The Loud House”
- “Clifford the Big Red Dog”
- “16 Hudson”
Comic reviews
And here’s reviews I’ve written of comics starring LGBTQ characters:
- “Lumberjanes”
- “Jem and the Holograms” (a spin-off/reboot of the 80s animated series)
- “Kyle’s Bed & Breakfast”
- “Questionable Content”
- “Goldie Vance”
- “The Backstagers”
- “AJ & Magnus”
- “Kevin Keller: Drive Me Crazy”
- “Kevin Keller: Welcome to Riverdale”
GLAAD Media Awards cartoon-related winners
A list of my posts about GLAAD Media Award winners related to both comics and animation. Note no awards were given in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Holidays

I’ve written a few holiday-related posts mentioning LGBTQ characters:
- Valentine’s Day in cartoons
- 10 cartoons featuring characters with two Moms (Mother’s Day)
- 6 Indigenous characters in cartoons (Indigenous Peoples’ Day)
- Winter solstice in cartoons
- Animated holiday specials featuring LGBTQ characters (Christmas/Hanukkah/Las Posadas)
LGBTQ people of color
- Cartoonists of Color Database, Queer Cartoonists Database highlight minority creators (August 2017)
- 10 LGBTQ people of color cartoon characters (June 2018)
While some media (both LGBTQ oriented and mainstream) equate being gay with being white, that’s obviously not true.
A cartoonist named MariNaomi runs three online cartoonist databases: the aforementioned ones for people of color and LGBTQ people, plus a third one for disabled cartoonists. All of them offer search filtering functions for more granular searches.
Others
A few miscellaneous but noteworthy posts:
- PBS’ “Arthur” reveals Mr. Ratburn is gay and getting married (May 2019)
- A look at same-sex weddings in cartoons (May 2019)
- Superman’s son Jon Kent comes out as bisexual (October 2021)
- Hockey in cartoons (including gay romance webcomic “Check, Please!”) (June 2022)
