Here’s a look at what graphic novels and trade paperbacks are coming out for August 2020. Or rather, August 2020 and beyond—the graphic novels I list below are actually due out in September or October.

“Avant-Guards” returns with a new graphic novel. The comic is about the members of a second-tier women’s college basketball team. As of this writing, sports are gradually coming back post-pandemic, with the WNBA one of the first leagues to do so.
Lumberjanes is releasing “The Encyclopedia Lumberjanica,” a special volume that covers famous women through history such as Bessie Coleman and Sally Ride, plus the perspectives of the “Lumberjanes” cast.
On the heels of the Raven graphic novel comes the next one in the series, a Beast Boy entry. Given Raven’s graphic novel was DC’s highest selling non-“Watchmen”-related one in book channels last year, that might spell good news for Beast Boy. Meanwhile, DC’s also publishing a third entry in their Super Sons series of graphic novels.
I noticed Archie doesn’t have any ongoing single-issue comics solicited for August. Other than a one-shot “Archie & Friends” summer-themed single, it’s all digests or trade paperbacks. While the digests usually offer at least one newly-created story, it’s otherwise all reprints from the House of “Riverdale” for August. Comics Beat also notes that it’s all classic-style Archie stories this month, not their other house styles (the horror line, “Riverdale,” the rebooted modern style).
