Dr. Strange guest-stars in this month’s “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” which seems set in a place that’s up his alley.

Marvel’s collecting the short-lived initial run of “The Unstoppable Wasp” into a trade this month. The House of Ideas is also collecting Iceman’s “Amazing Friends” team-up with Firestar and Spider-Man into a trade. As a kid, “Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends” was a favorite of mine.

It’s apparently comics trademark renewal time, as Marvel’s releasing a one-shot book for February 2019 starring Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal. Ziggy and Silly were two of Marvel’s leading Golden Age funny animal comic characters; however, they’ve very rarely appeared since.

Unlike DC (and its Golden/Silver Age funny animal dominated “Earth-C”), Marvel seems to not make use of their Golden Age funny animals in the extended Marvel multiverse as much. (When Marvel-based funny animals/anthropomorphic animals are needed, Marvel seems to prefer Howard the Duck, Rocket Raccoon, and Spider-Ham?) Ziggy and Silly last appeared in a 2009 Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four story.

Kamala Khan’s comic turns five

Despite its issue number, Ms. Marvel’s comic marks its fifth anniversary this month. “Ms. Marvel” (vol. 3) #1 was cover-dated April 2014, but went on sale in February. Since then, Kamala’s become one of the most popular superhero characters created in the 2010s. Kamala’s even made the jump to video games and, recently, her own animated TV series (co-starring with Squirrel Girl).

Obligatory Scooby-Doo remarks

As noted last month, “Scooby-Doo Team-Up” has two issues in January (at the beginning and end of the month). Between that and February 2019 being a short month, it might be why there are no “Team-Up” comics scheduled.

However, we are getting an issue of the regular, plain vanilla “Scooby-Doo” comic—the one with a traditional mystery solving format, not with superhero team-ups or post-apocalyptic monsters. The series looks like it’ll hit issue #100 sometime in the summer of 2019.
