DC’s “Rebirth” is still ongoing this month, with various new first issues being launched. However, since DC still largely employs the same (problematic) staff as before, I wouldn’t expect anything radically different in tone. The fact the first issue of the “Rebirth” “Superman” featured a pointless gory death suggests the only thing that’s really changed at DC is their logo.

Therefore, between that and other factors, I thought I’d rethink a bit how I do these recommended comics posts. For DC’s case, I’ll try to recommend mainly their non-DCU material, though I was mostly doing such already. While I’ll still suggest some old favorite characters, I’ll also try to recommend books that cost less than $5/don’t mainly center on decades-old characters. As long as my favorite characters are all going to get rebooted to heck/cancelled/rendered “non-canonical” on DC’s whim, I may as well be recommending enjoyable versions!

Back to the comics, I noticed “Wacky Raceland” is now a miniseries, as this month’s issue is billed as “part 4 of 6.” Gather sales must not be as strong as was hoped. Meanwhile, “Future Quest” features revised versions of Frankenstein, Jr. and the Impossibles—the latter now counts a woman as a member of the team.

“Scooby-Doo Team-Up” features a sizable team-up this issue. Ace the Bat-Hound and Krypto the Superdog return, and they’re joined by G’nort, the Space Canine Patrol Agency, and Wonder Dog! G’nort was a joke character from “Green Lantern” (as an inept member); the SPCA is an all-canine superhero team to which Krypto belonged in the Silver Age (it appeared on Krypto’s animated series as the “Dog Star Patrol”); Wonder Dog comes from the first season of the Super Friends.
