A look at graphic novels coming out in October 2020 (and beyond), including a new "Lumberjanes" volume.
Recent podcast successes like “Serial” have kicked off a revival in audio programming that often rises above the state of conventional radio. There’s a podcast on every subject imaginable, with some updated more often than others.
More specifically, there’s plenty of podcasts that focus on geeky subjects. Below are some of the ones I like that focus on comics, tech, etc.
Black Girl Nerds
A podcast featuring the person behind the website and Twitter account of the same name. The podcast discusses geeky subjects (comics, TV shows, movies, etc.) from a Black (and particularly Black woman) perspective. There’s also interviews with various creators.
This Week in Tech (TWiT)
A long-running (and at two hours per episode, fairly lengthy) podcast discussing the previous week’s worth of tech news.
This Week in Google
A weekly companion podcast to TWiT above, focusing on Google-related news. Like its sibling program, “This Week in Google” is also fairly long.
A podcast updated daily, TWiT Bits is a compilation of various short tech news stories from the other TWiT podcasts. This one’s only several minutes long per episode. The less patient or those who just want to hear particular stories in the above two podcasts might want to subscribe to this one.
A podcast by The Verge website. The Vergecast serves as a weekly tech roundup, discussing whatever big tech news is happening (product releases, new iPhones, etc.).
Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!
NPR’s funny, long-running panel quiz show airs every Saturday, covering the week’s major news events. The show also features celebrity panelists for one quiz segment, “Not My Job.”
Ask Me Another
Another NPR quiz show, this one centers around pop culture trivia.
The WordPress Chick Podcast
A podcast that focuses on WordPress use and design, though from a beginner’s perspective.
NPR offers several times a week “Planet Money,” a program covering various financial topics. The topics are usually current, though historical topics get covered as well. One episode covered why Coca-Cola stayed a nickel a bottle for decades.
On the Media
A weekly public radio program discussing media-related news stories.
This design podcast features interviews with a variety of Black graphic designers, web developers, and other digital creators.
An NPR podcast that focuses on the treatment of minorities in a specific news story or societal aspect each week. Recent topics have ranged from the post-Hurricane Maria disaster in Puerto Rico to the US Census to the Black Lives Matter movement.
