My thoughts

October brings a ton of horror films and other similar fare appropriate for Halloween. The full list of DVDs and Blu-rays coming out in October is full of such fare, from a 4K release of the 1989 Wes Craven film “Shocker” to the season two Blu-ray set of the “Interview with the Vampire” TV series. Meanwhile, Paramount+ is carrying all of the original “Friday the 13th” films. It’s also carrying, oddly enough, several “Scooby-Doo” made-for-TV films, including “Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders” and “Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers.” (No “Zombie Island” or “Ghoul School?”)
Apple TV+ will stream for free all of the major “Peanuts” holiday specials. The free streaming starts with “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on October 19 and 20. “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” will stream for free on November 23 and 24, while “A Charlie Brown Christmas” streams free on December 14 and 15. Again, a reminder that the “Peanuts” specials no longer air on TV or are available to buy digitally. If you don’t want to use Apple TV+, your only other option is to buy the specials on DVD and Blu-ray (which is what I recommend).
Sports stuff
October brings the one month of the year in which all four major North American sports overlap. Football season is in full swing; baseball holds its playoffs/World Series; and it’s the start of the season for basketball and hockey.
