My thoughts
I expect Disney to dominate theaters for the first month of the summer movie season. For starters, there’s yet another Marvel film, this one based on the “Thunderbolts” comic; the film’s version has an asterisk in the title for… reasons.
There’s also yet another live-action remake of an animated film, “Lilo & Stitch.” Stitch is CGI, and keeps his original voice actor, Chris Sanders (who also has a writing credit). One one hand, I like the original “Lilo & Stitch,” so I admit I’m interested in seeing the remake. On the other hand, I’m not sure if I’m interested in it enough to see at a theater. Plus it’s, well, yet another remake—why encourage them? That said, the original “Lilo & Stitch” is still getting attention from Disney, with a 4K Blu-ray being released in May.
“The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” is coming out on Blu-ray this month, which is good news for those that want to support the film and couldn’t see it in theaters. It’s currently available for pre-order on Amazon and other outlets; as of this writing, it ranks #90 in Amazon’s top 100 Movies & TV best sellers.
“Welcome to Wrexham,” the Ryan Reynolds sports reality show/documentary, starts its new season on Hulu.
The annual Eurovision Song Contest takes place in May. While it’s a contest centered around, well, Europe (plus Israel and Australia, who also compete), I wonder if any of the performers will take any shots against Trump and the United States, given how much Trump’s alienated the rest of the world since January. (Especially his insulting and degrading treatment of Ukraine’s president in February.)
