I’ve previously written about how to watch Looney Tunes and the major Hanna-Barbera shows on DVD and Blu-ray, per HBO Max’s content purges. (Fortunately, the major Hanna-Barbera shows and Looney Tunes are currently streaming on Tubi.) Since I’ve already covered two major Warner Bros. animation catalogs, I thought I should cover another major one: Cartoon Network/Adult Swim.
For the record, the remaining Warner animation catalog is completely or near-completely on DVD/Blu-ray: Warner’s feature films like “The Iron Giant”; “Tom and Jerry” and most of the other MGM shorts like “Droopy”; the Amblin co-productions like “Animaniacs”; and the DC Comics catalog, from the Filmation Aquaman cartoon to “Superman: The Animated Series” to “Harley Quinn.” So I won’t cover those.
While Tubi plans to carry many of these shows, owning them outright means avoiding any future streaming-related antics. Plus, physical media is commercial-free.
For the sake of this post not running long, I’m limiting this to what I consider the biggest/“major” Cartoon Network/Adult Swim shows. So please don’t get upset, fans of “Symbiotic Titan” or “12 Oz. Mouse.” Also not listed: anime, reruns of pre-Cartoon Network material, or acquired third-party shows. I’m also mainly focused on North America DVD/Blu-ray releases (since that’s where I live), though will note a few releases from elsewhere.
Cartoon Network
Dexter’s Laboratory
The entire run of “Dexter’s Laboratory” is available on a complete series DVD box set.
Johnny Bravo
Only the first season has a full DVD release in North America, but otherwise, it’s just a handful of episodes on Cartoon Network compilation discs. The second season saw a DVD release for region 4 (Australia/New Zealand).
The Powerpuff Girls
The original series has a complete series DVD box set available.
As for the 2016 reboot, some episodes have been released to DVD, but no complete series set is available. The first season saw a full release in region 4 (Australia/New Zealand).
Ed, Edd n Eddy
The entire series is available on a complete series DVD set, though it doesn’t include any holiday specials or the made-for-TV movie series finale.
Courage the Cowardly Dog
“Courage” received a complete series DVD set. The Scooby-Doo crossover film also is available on DVD.
Samurai Jack
The individual seasons received DVD releases. However, the entire series is available a Blu-ray set.
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
The first season of “Billy and Mandy” is available on a now out-of-print DVD set, while other episodes have received scattered DVD releases. Which is more than what its one-time sister segment/series, “Evil Con Carne,” has received on physical media (I remember liking “Evil” better).
Codename: Kids Next Door
A handful of “Kids Next Door” episodes have received DVD releases, but that’s all.
Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
“Fosters” received a complete series DVD release.
Ben 10
“Ben 10” has had multiple incarnations, which is impressive for a show that (ironically) is a pastiche of a fellow Warner-owned property, the old DC comic “Dial H For Hero.”
In 2025, a complete series set for the original series and its spin-offs “Alien Force,” “Ultimate Alien,” and “Omniverse” was released.
As for the 2016 reboot, the first season and part of the second season are available on DVD.
Chowder
Part of “Chowder” has seen DVD releases, but not the entire series, at least in North America. (The full series is supposedly available in Thailand on region 3 DVDs, at least according to Wikipedia.)
Adventure Time
The entire series has received a complete series DVD release. The spin-off miniseries “Distant Lands” is available on DVD and Blu-ray. As far as I can tell, the “Fionna and Cake” spin-off currently isn’t available on physical media.
The Amazing World of Gumball
A handful of episodes of “Gumball” are on DVD, but no complete series set exists.
Regular Show
“Regular Show” has a complete series DVD set, including “Regular Show: The Movie.”
Steven Universe
The entire series is available as a complete series DVD set, which includes “Steven Universe: The Movie” and the “Future” spin-off series.
We Bare Bears
A handful of “We Bare Bears” episodes, as well as the made-for-TV movie, are on DVD. Its spin-off, “We Baby Bears,” has half of its first season available on DVD.
Craig of the Creek
Despite its six season run, only part of “Craig of the Creek’s first season has seen a North American DVD release. Australia received the first three seasons on DVD.
Adult Swim
Space Ghost: Coast to Coast
Most of the run of this series is available on DVD, though the latter seasons were only sold via Adult Swim’s site. As for its spin-off “The Brak Show,” the entire series is available on two DVD sets.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
“Aqua Teen” saw a near-complete series release to DVD. Two episode are withheld from the set: “Boston” (a completed episode that was permanently pulled and never aired or released to video, after the 2007 bomb scare incident) and “Shake Like Me” (pulled from reruns and streaming due to its use of blackface).
The Boondocks
The entire series is available on a complete series DVD set.
Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law
The entire series is available on three DVD volumes.
The Venture Bros.
The entire series is available as a DVD box set. Seasons 3 through 7 are also available on Blu-ray.
Rick and Morty
The entire series is available on DVD and Blu-ray. A DVD box set exists for the first seven seasons (plus an eighth season DVD set), while all eight seasons to date are on several Blu-ray releases.
