Recently, I wrote a post about how to watch Looney Tunes on physical media, as an update of an older post that also covered Scooby-Doo and the Flintstones. As such, I thought a stand-alone, updated post covering how to watch the major Hanna-Barbera cartoons on DVD and Blu-ray might be in order. (Wikipedia has a full list of all of the Hanna-Barbera material available on DVD/Blu-ray.)
Unlike Warner Bros.’s mercurial treatment of Bugs and Daffy, the Hanna-Barbera library is still readily available on TV, as well as home video and streaming. Much of the Hanna-Barbera library is also available on DVD. Warner Bros. has also started releasing Blu-ray versions of previous DVD releases, such as “Wacky Races” and the 1980s “Superstars 10” made-for-TV movies. Still, as the current management of Warner Bros. and Max shows, if you’re a major fan of any of these characters, buying the DVDs/Blu-rays is worth considering. Bonus: no commercials!
As far as streaming is concerned, Tubi currently carries “The Flintstones” and “Scooby-Doo”; Hulu also has “The Flintstones,” as well as “The Jetsons.” (Max, for now anyway, also has all of these, plus “Yogi Bear.”) Over-the-air TV is another option: MeTV and spin-off MeTV Toons air all of the above shows daily.
The Flintstones
The entire original series is available on DVD and Blu-ray; while individual season DVD sets are available, you’re better off buying the complete series collection, compiling all six seasons.
Spin-offs available on DVD:
- The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show (1971).
- The late 70s primetime specials:
- The Flintstones Meet Rockula and Frankenstone.
- Little Big League.
- The Flintstones’ New Neighbors.
- Fred’s Final Fling.
- Wind-Up Wilma.
- Jogging Fever.
- The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones (1987). Also on Blu-ray.
- I Yabba-Dabba Do! (1993).
- Hollyrock-a-bye Baby (1993).
- The Flintstone Kids (1986). This show only has a partial DVD release, with just 10 episode DVD set has been released to date.
- The Flintstones and WWE: Stone Age Smackdown (2015). Also on Blu-ray.
The Jetsons
The entire original series, including the 1960s episodes and the 1980s revival, is available as a complete series set on DVD and Blu-ray. Again, I’d buy the complete series set over the individual DVD season releases.
Spin-offs available on DVD:
- Astro and the Space Mutts (1981-1982). A segment of the anthology show “Space Stars,” and available on its DVD set.
- The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones (1987). Also on Blu-ray.
- Rockin’ with Judy Jetsons (1988). Also on Blu-ray.
- Jetsons: The Movie (1990). Also on Blu-ray.
- The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania! (2015). Also on Blu-ray.
Jonny Quest
The original series is available on DVD and Blu-ray. However, Wikipedia states the DVD version has various content edits, as well as incorrect closing credits. As such, fans will definitely want the Blu-ray release.
Spin-offs available on DVD:
- The New Adventures of Jonny Quest (1986). On DVD as “Jonny Quest: The Complete Eighties Adventures.”
- The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest (1996).
- Jonny’s Golden Quest (1992). Also on Blu-ray as a double feature with “Jonny Quest vs. the Cyber-Insects.”
- Jonny Quest vs. the Cyber-Insects (1995). Also on Blu-ray as a double feature with “Jonny’s Golden Quest.”
- Tom and Jerry: Spy Quest (2015): A crossover between “Jonny Quest” and “Tom and Jerry.”
Scooby-Doo
The original series (“Scooby-Doo Where Are You!”) is available on DVD and Blu-ray as a complete series set. The set includes (as “Season 3”) most of the late 1970s Scooby-Doo episodes currently syndicated as “The Scooby-Doo Show.”
Scooby-Doo is the most popular Hanna-Barbera character these days. At one point, Scooby had three separate ongoing DC comic books—more than superheroes like the Flash or Wonder Woman. As such, nearly every Scooby-Doo spin-off TV show, special, and direct-to-video movie from A to Z (or “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo” to “Zombie Island”) has a DVD/Blu-ray release. I’ll list the exceptions below:
- “The New Scooby-Doo Movies” is on DVD and Blu-ray, except for the episode “Wednesday is Missing” due to rights reasons with the estate that owns “The Addams Family.”
- “Scooby’s All-Star Laff-a-lympics” only has the first season’s worth of “Laff-a-lympics” episodes available on DVD.
- “The Scooby-Doo Show”’s DVD availability is a bit of a mess. Season two has some episodes scattered on individual compilation DVDs. Otherwise, your best bet for this incarnation is buying the “Where Are You” and “Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour” DVD sets, which together cover most of “The Scooby-Doo Show””s run.
- “Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo”’s original 1979 season is available on DVD. However, the 1980-1982 incarnation (with just Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy) is more scattershot. The first seven episodes are available on “The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show” DVD set; only a handful of others are available, scattered across various DVD compilation discs.
- “The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show” (1983-1984) only has a handful of episodes available on scattered DVD compilations.
- “Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue” (running from 2006 to 2008 for two seasons) only has partial DVD sets of the first season available, plus some other episodes included on DVD compilation sets.
- “Be Cool Scooby-Doo” (running from 2015 to 2018 for two seasons) only has the first season on DVD.
- “Velma,” the mature viewers-only Max series, isn’t available on physical media as of this writing.
Space Ghost
The original series is available on DVD and Blu-ray, under its original title “Space Ghost and Dino Boy.”
The “Space Ghost” revival episodes from the 1980s, airing on the anthology series “Space Stars,” are available on the “Space Stars” DVD set.
As for the Adult Swim spin-offs:
- “Space Ghost Coast to Coast”: Most of the run of this series is available on DVD, though the latter seasons were only sold via Adult Swim’s site.
- “The Brak Show”: The entire series is available on two DVD sets.
Top Cat
The original “Top Cat” series is available on DVD and Blu-ray.
The 1988 TV movie “Top Cat and the Beverly Hills Cats” is available on DVD and Blu-ray.
The two CGI movies “Top Cat: The Movie” (2011) and “Top Cat Begins” (2015) are available on DVD. “Top Cat”’s popular in Latin America, which is why these two films were made; it likely has an English language dub since TC and the gang are also popular in the UK.
Wacky Races
“Wacky Races” is available as a DVD set (and as of late April 2025, a Blu-ray release).
Spin-offs available on DVD:
- The Perils of Penelope Pitstop.”
- “Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines.”
Yogi Bear
As one of Hanna-Barbera’s most popular characters, Yogi’s had a lot of spin-offs, and is still on TV to this day. However, for some reason, relatively few of Yogi’s TV shows are on DVD—no “Yogi’s Treasure Hunt,” no “Yogi’s Space Race,” no “The New Yogi Bear Show” (the late 80s revival of “The Yogi Bear Show”), no “Fender Bender 500,” no “Jellystone!.”
Still, to summarize the spin-offs available on DVD:
- “The Huckleberry Hound Show,” on which Yogi originated as a supporting segment, only has a DVD release of the first season.
- “The Yogi Bear Show” (1961).
- “Yogi’s Gang” (1973).
- Most of Yogi’s TV specials, theatrical movies, and made-for-TV movies are on DVD:
- “Hey There It’s Yogi Bear” (1964). Also on Blu-ray.
- “Yogi’s Ark Lark” (1972).
- “Yogi’s First Christmas” (1980).
- “Yogi Bear’s All-Star Comedy Christmas Caper” (1982).
- “Yogi’s Great Escape” (1987). Also on Blu-ray.
- “Yogi Bear and the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose” (1987). Also on Blu-ray.
- “Yogi and the Invasion of the Space Bears” (1988). Also on Blu-ray.
- “Yogi the Easter Bear” (1994).
- The live-action 2010 “Yogi Bear” film. Also on Blu-ray.
