The top film at the box office this weekend is the lacking-in-diversity Biblical film “Exodus: Gods and Kings.” The film brought in $24.5 million. The amount’s lower than what others had expected the film to earn (versus films such as this year’s “Noah”), and “Exodus” will probably get crushed domestically by the onslaught of films opening in the next few weeks. Forbes figures it’ll make the bulk of its money overseas, where it’s doing well.

In second place is “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1,” earning another $13.2 million (-40.1% from last weekend). So far, it’s earned $277.4 million domestically, $334 million overseas, and $611.4 million globally.

Coming in third place is “Penguins of Madagascar,” which earned $7.3 million (-33.1%). Its totals stand at $58.8 million domestically, $116 million overseas, and $174.8 million globally.

“Big Hero 6” dropped to fifth place (behind the new Chris Rock film “Top Five”), earning $6.1 million (-23.6%). Its totals stand at $185.3 million domestically, $68.2 million overseas, and $253.5 million globally. “Big Hero 6” should surpass the domestic total of “Wreck-It Ralph” within the next week or so.

“Interstellar” came in sixth place, earning $5.5 million (-29.4%). The film’s totals stand at $166.8 million domestically, $455 million overseas, and $621.8 million globally.

In ninth place is “The Theory of Everything,” which earned another $2.5 million (-4.6%). The Stephen Hawking biopic’s earned $17.1 million domestically and $2.3 million overseas, or $19.4 million total.

Next week sees opening “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” “Annie,” and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.” No, I don’t know why Hollywood studios would try going directly up against a “Hobbit” film.
