There’s a new “Peanuts” volume out, entitled “The Beagle Has Landed.” While this title was used for a 70s or 80s strip compilation, this version is an originally-written “Peanuts” story involving space travel and my least favorite character in the strip, the Cat Next Door (real name: World War II), the pet of Charlie Brown’s neighbors and basically a mindless, nasty brute/bully. His shtick is slashing to bits with his claws Wolverine-style Snoopy’s doghouse (when Snoopy teases him or remotely communicates with him)…and, uh, that’s it. Not one of the better latter “Peanuts” additions, but the always-offscreen character is mentioned or appears a lot in 70s/80s strips, as well as the “Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show” Saturday morning series.

Some other old newspaper strips are also being collected, including “Hagar the Horrible” and the Mickey Mouse comic strip.

Issue four of the current five-part “Atomic Robo” series is due. Dr. Dinosaur (a sentient velociraptor—or a version based on “Jurassic Park”‘s “raptors”) is one of the funniest aspects of this comic, just for his sheer absurdness/stupidity that annoys everyone else in the strip (particularly Robo).
