Due out this month is the third (and final) trade paperback of the recently-cancelled Popeye comic revival. However, the classic reprints will continue. I liked the (over-the-top) description for this month’s classics issue (“Doctor Doom, Catwoman and Lex Luthor are merely Sea Hag wannabes! Comicdom’s greatest villain and her terrifying vultures take on our One-Eyed Sailor!”). The Sea Hag does pre-date all three of these classic supervillains, debuting in the “Thimble Theater” comic strip in 1929.
Dark Horse plans to release a new comic based on Captain Midnight, the popular 1940s radio show character (an aviator who has various adventures fighting spies/Nazis/etc.). In this case, it sounds like they’re taking a cue from one famous aspect of Captain America’s backstory, as the comic’s premise has the character finding himself suddenly emerging in the present day (via the Bermuda Triangle).
