Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) this year is on May 7, 2016. The day, held annually on the first Saturday in May, is an annual offering of free comics by comic book shops across the country. It’s meant to promote the virtues and positive aspects of the comics medium, as well as the existence of comic book shops.

50 comics have been announced for this year’s FCBD. As usual, the comics are split between two categories, 12 “Gold” titles and 38 “Silver” titles. Here’s the titles I’d suggest. Note that comic shops have to pay for the FCBD “free” comics, and thus can only give away several titles per customer. Along with the Free Comic Book Day comic, you should also make a purchase while you’re at your local comic shop.

Gold titles

  • Archie #1
  • Bongo Comics Free-For-All
  • Boom! Studios Summer Blast
  • Camp Midnight
  • Avengers #1

Silver titles

  • Captain America #1
  • Help the CBLDF…Defend Comics
  • Dark Horse All-Ages Sampler
  • Space Goat Presents: Dark Lily & Friends
  • DC Super Hero Girls #1
  • Love and Rockets Sampler
  • Dream Jumper
  • Hilda and the Stone Forest
  • March Trilogy Sampler
  • Mooncop: A Tom Gauld Sampler
  • Oddly Normal Chapter One
  • The Pink Panther #1
  • Science Comics
  • SpongeBob Freestyle Funnies
  • Sonic Sampler
  • The Tick
  • One Punch Man/My Hero Academia
