This is definitely not a holly jolly Christmas from DC. “Batman ’66” and “Sensation Comics” are being cancelled? The latter the only readable Wonder Woman comic DC’s publishing? Apparently her “normal” title is being edited by the Superman offices, which explains a lot… plus this Tumblr post by former “Sensation” writer Alex de Campi explains the Superman titles’ current problems with sexist management. Either way, the cancellations definitely cut down on my DC reading (or trade waiting).
DC’s also cancelling six other titles as of the end of the year: “Justice League United,” “Gotham By Midnight,” “The Omega Men,” “Lobo,” “Doomed,” and “Green Lantern: Lost Army.” The last one has now become a miniseries, with DC spokesperson claiming it was “always” intended to be a miniseries, despite never being solicited as such. Uh-huh.
At least Batman ’66 does get one last hurrah: a six-issue miniseries where he teams up with “The Man From UNCLE.” (Still not typing out those periods.) I’ve never seen “UNCLE,” but might read it anyway.
DC’s highest-cover-numbered title, “Looney Tunes,” sees a story with Daffy and Porky in a library. Meanwhile, this month’s “Scooby-Doo” mentions the gang’s town as “Crystal Cove” (from “Mystery Incorporated”)? Wonder if the upcoming “Be Cool Scooby-Doo” uses Crystal Cove too, or reverted back to “Coolsville”/generic-unnamed-town. Given Cartoon Network still heavily airs the live-action Scooby-Doo films that used Coolsville, seems like a name they should’ve just stuck with, goofy or not.
Finally, this month’s “Showcase” is a reprint of the early 70s Batman stories, seeing his shift back to a Dark(er) Knight Detective. We also get an omnibus (timed for the upcoming March release “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice”) of the early Batman/Superman team-up stories in “World’s Finest Comics.”
