Changes to the blog (October 2015)

MacBook, coffee mug, and cactus

Updated on June 14, 2022

Time for the occasional news about what’s going on with my blog.

After some thought, I’ve decided to drop the ongoing “cartoons at the box office” Sunday posts. Looking over Google Analytics, it confirms what I’d suspected: that even for my blog’s modest traffic, nobody’s really reading the posts. The fact you can get more detailed box office rankings from Box Office Mojo, Variety, AP, etc. also doesn’t help. Finally, the posts weren’t particularly “evergreen,” so there wasn’t much use for them past, well, the next weekend. It’d be easier to just post my box office thoughts (and maybe a link to Box Office Mojo’s rankings) on Twitter or my Facebook page.

I’d also like to try to keep the blog more frequently updated, instead of going long stretches of days between posts. Having only the weekly “minorities in cartoons” post and maybe one or two other posts a week doesn’t do much for attracting traffic.

Based on what does draw site traffic, I gather I should give a shot to writing: “top 10”-style lists; infographics; more tech posts (news, tips, reviews); and try to cover comics/animation/media news stories more often, including diversity issues, noteworthy changes (such as Marvel’s upcoming movie slate shifting around), etc. The “minorities in cartoons” posts aren’t going anywhere, though I’ve skipped this week’s post with recent offline distractions/pondering the blog’s state.

Is there anything you’d like to see more of on my blog? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.
