The biggest news this month is after 70 years, “Archie” is finally being relaunched with a new #1 and change in tone. But before it does that, it’s ending the traditional title’s run with what sounds like a retrospective. Not exactly “Whatever Happened to the Teen of Tomorrow?” (that’d be the “Life With Archie” series), but hopefully a nice send-off.
I’ll note that a traditionally wholesome title like Archie is ending its run with issue #666. DC used “Superman” and “Batman” hitting issues #666 for stories with a devil/demonic story theme as loose tie-ins. Given Archie’s standards have loosened up a bit in such matters in recent years, I would’ve liked to have seen #666 feature Sabrina. Of course, their two mature-readers horror titles more than make up for things. And Archie borrowed at least one trick from DC/Marvel, besides the rebooting: #666 will have no fewer than six variant covers.
