This month’s “Archie” comic is, for some odd reason, an extra-sized issue, with a price hike to match ($4 instead of $3). Given the declining sales of the pamphlet size comics for Archie, maybe this is a way to either try to shore up sales figures, see if the $4 price point for “floppy” comics will work for Archie like it’s worked(?) for DC and Marvel, and/or to make it more attractive to newsstands.
Speaking of extra-sized comics, there’s more such books also coming out, including (a bit early) a back-to-school-themed special plus another “Double Double Digest,” this time for “World of Archie.”
Nice variant covers for “Betty & Veronica” and “Life With Archie.” The latter, by Phil Jimenez and Tito Peña, has a George Perez-like feel to it.
On the trade paperback side, “Legacy of the Crusaders” reprints some new and old material, expanding on the world of the Mighty Crusaders.
