The good news is that unlike last year, this year’s Oscar nominees are a more diverse group of films. Some of the films up for “Best Picture” include “Moonlight,” “Fences,” and “Hidden Figures.” The bad news (in terms of competition) is the hype so far seems to favor “La La Land,” a musical centered around Hollywood/southern California’s favorite subject, itself.
That said, the reaction on Twitter this year seems cautiously optimistic. Of course, my Twitter feed’s had its hopes about a lot of things dashed over the past several months (the election, the Super Bowl, etc.).
On the animation side of things, I’m assuming “Zootopia” is the likely animated feature winner this year. I haven’t seen the others, but they’ve all received much praise in reviews.
