MaleficentLast week’s box office champ, “Maleficent,” took second place this weekend at the box office (after new first place entry “The Fault in Our Stars”). “Maleficent” earned $33.5 million at the box office, with a domestic total of $127.4 million. Overseas, it’s earned $208.1 million, for a global total of $335.5 million.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” came in fourth place, earning $14.7 million for a domestic total of $189.1 million. With an international total of $420.5 million, the film’s earned globally $609.6 million. Expect even more X-movies in the future, of course.

“Godzilla” came in sixth place, earning $6 million, for a domestic total of $185 million and an overseas total of $208.7 million, or a global total of $393.7 million. Not bad for the King of the Monsters.

Finally, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” came in tenth place, earning $1.9 million. Per Forbes, Spidey’s earned $196.2 million domestically and $699.3 million worldwide, so it should cross $700 million globally by tomorrow. That “Sinister Six” film looks more and more promising for Sony…

Next weekend sees “How to Train Your Dragon 2” open, the only major animated release for this summer.
