While I’m guessing it won’t reach the ludicrously high gross of last year’s Disney film, “Frozen,” it’ll surely easily earn back its rather hefty $165 million budget. Overseas, it’s already earned $23 million, for a global total of $79.2 million. Forbes notes it’s the highest non-Pixar, non-holiday weekend opening Disney’s had for an animated film (and second biggest non-Pixar weekend after “Frozen”), which is promising.

Oddly, $165 million is also what this week’s second-place film, the Christopher Nolan space epic “Interstellar,” cost. “Interstellar” earned $50 million this weekend. Its totals to date stand at $52.2 million domestic, $80 million overseas, and $132.2 million globally.

Elsewhere, “Alexander and the Terrible…Day” came in ninth place, earning another $3.5 million (-46.9% from last weekend). Its totals stand at $59.2 million domestic, $19.3 million overseas, and $78.5 million globally.

Finally, “The Book of Life” dropped from fifth to tenth place (with Day of the Dead/Halloween over), earning $2.8 million (-65.9%). Its totals stand at $45.2 million domestic, $34.5 million overseas, and $79.7 million globally.

Next weekend sees opening the needless sequel “Dumb and Dumber To,” which is the only major film until the following week’s “The Hunger Games” sequel inevitably rakes in a huge box office take.
