This week’s minorities in cartoons entry is “Milo Murphy’s Law,” a series that airs on Disney XD. “Milo” debuted in 2016.

Background

The series focuses on the misadventures of Milo Murphy, a preteen who’s cursed with an extreme case of bad luck. As such, the show adheres to the pessimistic philosophy of “Murphy’s Law” (“anything that can go wrong, will go wrong”); everything in Milo’s life goes wrong on a daily basis, and in the most slapstick way possible. Despite this, Milo is also extremely optimistic, determined not to let his misfortunes get him down. Milo usually carries a backpack filled with various items to assist in surviving a typical day.

Milo’s few friends include Melissa, a long time acquaintance, and Zack, a new kid in town. (The show’s set in the same universe as fellow Disney XD series “Phineas and Ferb.”) Zack initially questions Milo’s extreme bad luck, but eventually becomes friends after an adventure in getting to school.

Voice actors

“Weird Al” Yankovic voices Milo.

Sabrina Carpenter voices Melissa. Carpenter’s the main actress in Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World,” the “Boy Meets World” spin-off.

Mekai Curtis voices Zack. Curtis’ main other role to date has been as the co-star of “Kirby Buckets,” a live-action Disney XD series.
