“Dark Knights Rising,” “Saga,” “My Hero Academia” topped February 2018 comic sales

In a slow February, “Dark Knights Rising: The Wild Hunt” #1 was the top-selling direct market comic for the month. Meanwhile, “Saga” volume 8 topped direct market trade paperback sales. At bookstores, “Saga,” “Black Panther,” and “My Hero Academia” topped the sales charts.

Marvel put in a strong top 10 showing; meanwhile, Image’s “Walking Dead” was the lone non-Big Two entry.

“Future Quest Presents” #7 sold 9,526 issues according to Comichron, while “Scooby-Doo Team-Up” #35 (featuring Yogi Bear) sold 5,491 issues. “Scooby Apocalypse” #22 as usual was the best-selling Hanna-Barbera book, with 11,684 issues sold.

Image’s “Saga,” volume 8 topped the trades this month. It’s followed by a “Star Wars” volume.

Coming in third place for trade sales is “DC Meets Looney Tunes,” a collection of the DCU-meets-Looney Tunes stories DC recently published. The most popular story of the bunch was a Batman versus Elmer Fudd tale. Other tales include Wonder Woman meeting Taz and the Martian Manhunter meeting Marvin the Martian. Despite the name “DC Meets Looney Tunes,” DC’s actually been publishing the “Looney Tunes” comic (originally monthly, now bimonthly) since 1994.

“My Hero Academia,” volume 11, topped the adult graphic novel sales chart.

Black Panther not only did well at the theaters, but also made several appearances on the bookstore comics sales charts. Coats’ run came in at #2, #9, and #15 (for volumes 1, 2, and 3 respectively). The only other Big Two title to appear is “Watchmen” at #18. T’Challa also dominated the separate superhero chart.

Kids

“Dog Man” and Raina Telgemeier’s various volumes once again dominated the top of the kids’ book sales chart.

“A Wrinkle in Time” came in at #10; I wonder if it’ll see a boost in March due to the movie.

“My Hero Academia” topped the charts here, but more noteworthy is that Viz Media took up 18 of the 20 slots. The only exceptions: “Black Butler” volume 25 and “Citrus,” volume 7. I’ve read the first volume of “Black Butler,” though not “Academia.”
