My podcast listening (fall 2015)

Lately, I’ve been listening to a few new podcasts, along with my usual ones. Usually my podcast listening is to NPR ones, but the newer ones are from outside the realm of public radio.

As for how I’m listening to podcasts nowadays, I’m still using Stitcher, after trying several web-based podcast players. Google’s announced plans to include podcast support soon in Google Play Music, which’d be a nice reversal on “spring cleaning” its old podcast app. But for now, Stitcher’s working OK. It’s also the only web-based podcast player that could handle (via buffering) my workplace’s spotty WiFi without losing my place in the podcast.

Anyway, here’s what I’ve been listening to:

NPR’s Technology

NPR offers a podcast of its tech-related news stories from “All Things Considered,” “Morning Edition,” and other news programs. It’s updated on a daily basis.

Planet Money

NPR offers several times a week “Planet Money,” a podcast covering various financial topics, both current (the Trans-Pacific Partnership treaty) or historical (why Coke stayed a nickel for 70 years).

Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!

NPR’s long-running panel quiz show airs every Saturday, and is usually pretty funny.

On the Media

A weekly public radio program discussing media-related news stories.

Less Than Live with Kate or Die

A podcast featuring comics writer/artist Kate Leth.

Black Girl Nerds

A podcast featuring the person behind the website and Twitter account Black Girl Nerds.

This Week in Tech (TWiT)

A long-running (and at two hours, fairly lengthy) podcast discussing the previous week’s worth of tech news.

This Week in Google

A weekly companion podcast to TWiT above, focusing on Google-related news. Like its parent podcast, “This Week in Google” is also fairly long.

TWiT Bits

A podcast updated daily, TWiT Bits is a compilation of various short tech news stories from the other TWiT podcasts. This one’s only several minutes long.

  1. Here’s my current batch of rotating podcasts that I listen to at work and at the gym:

MSNBC Rachel Maddow — Basically, the previous night’s program.
Savage Lovecast — Dan Savage giving dating and sex advice (NSFW)
The Riverdale Podcast — Archie-related content
The Nicole Sandler Show – Radio Or Not — Far-lefty talk show. She swears a lot and can get pretty heavy. Otherwise, I enjoy her program.
Paranormal Review Radio — Once weekly show that explores paranormal experiences and authors.
Undisclosed: The State VS Adnan Syed — Great show if you were a fan of “Serial.” Very informative.
Limetown — Creepy drama that airs every 1-2 weeks.
Sasquatch Chronicles — People call in with their Bigfoot encounters. I just discovered it. I know that I’ll eventually burn out on it, but I’m enjoying it right now.
