Boomerang’s revamp finally debuts in the United States

Almost a year ago, we received news that Boomerang, the sister channel of Cartoon Network, would be receiving a badly-needed, long-overdue revamp. For most of its existence, it had been running on what felt to many like auto-pilot, with the same few classic cartoon selections, and especially the same CGI-toy bumpers. (They’d use Christmas themed CGI toy bumpers come the holidays, but that was the sole variation.)

Well, after debuting in a few other countries and after various rumored start dates, the Boomerang revamp has finally debuted as of today here in the United States. The revamp’s most obvious sign so far are new bumpers, which are colorful. The schedule has reruns of newer series (“Teen Titans Go,” replacing the older “Teen Titans”) and fewer reruns of older cartoons. “Scooby-Doo,” “Tom and Jerry,” “The Flintstones,” and “Looney Tunes” are still on the schedule as staple classic series, and ones that deserve to stay in my opinion. (Though I’d have considered keeping the anthology series “Boomerang Zoo” to air the miscellaneous Hanna-Barbera material.) Otherwise, everything else is fairly recent. “The Amazing World of Gumball,” “The Garfield Show,” and the aforementioned “Teen Titans Go” are prominently scheduled.

There’s also a new logo for Boomerang (dropping mention of its Cartoon Network association), as shown above. Here’s the old logo, used by the channel since its 2000 launch:

Unfortunately, while the revamp has arrived, Boomerang still has a major issue with not being widely available across the country. It’s still not on Comcast cable in many places, including here in Seattle. I hope that Turner/Time Warner plans to somehow rectify this problem.

  1. We love Boomerang Cartoons especially Looney Tunes, Top Cat, Flinstones, Boomerang Zoo, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound. These are quality cartoons for the entire family. Jetsons are funny also. Please consider these as part of quality TV lineup!
