2011 on Anthony’s Notes: Linux

Happy New Year, everyone.

Today’s 2011 year-in-review for the blog focuses on Linux.

  • The main Linux news this year for me was my moving from Ubuntu 10.10 (and GNOME) to Xubuntu 11.04 (and Xfce), after disliking both GNOME 3 and Unity. This change came after having used GNOME and Ubuntu-proper for almost all of my Linux usage to date, so this wasn’t done on a whim. So far, Xubuntu’s working just fine…
  • A post I wrote comparing Linux Mint XFCE versus Xubuntu 10.10 got plenty of hits, despite how dated it quickly became (with Xubuntu 11.04 coming out and all).
  • I signed up with Evernote, which while it doesn’t have a Linux application (seriously, Evernote?), a stand-in Linux application does work with it, NixNote (formerly Nevernote). Has been very useful so far when combined with my smartphone.
  • Also getting some site traffic were my posts on my upgrade to Xubuntu 11.10, and my post-installation guide.
